When so-called negative things start happening in your life (or you think it's negative ;)), you feel victimized. And it's very easy to feel so at those moments. One has to constantly try to get out of the feeling-sorry-for-yourself mode. It's difficult, but definitely possible. Psychologists are wonderful people, I think. They tell you it's normal to feel all the bad stuff you're feeling, all the negativity. At such times, positive things are so wonderful. It could be just one sentence of someone or even a smile that lifts your spirits up.. they get you out of that pit of sorrow.
