Anyways thats right, relationship is like any other ship.
While its sinking, you can franctically pump out the water and try surviving till you reach the coast.
But once sunk, no point even if you later set on an adventure quest and pull it out of the bottom of the ocean. The people in the ship died long ago. So did the spark in the relationship.

yeah, this is a tough one to answer...whether it is worth it or not...or even measuring the worth of a troubled relationship!
