I haven't had chance to watch a lot of 70s films but what I already have gotten a chance to do is listen to the music so I decided to contribute in this area.
You can see why this era had such memorable and famous songs... they were so famous new directors chose to be lazy and just named their movies using these songs. And why wouldn't they? Because the success of the films was so high they knew if they named their movies with the same name, they'd have hits. ;) Yea right!

And who else would we start with but Kaka!? Kishore Kumar's beautiful singing, a piano/party song and the way Kaka blinks at us at 0:25 is to die for.. well, at least back then it was, and women actually did. He ruled hearts of Indian film watching women and they committed suicide the day he got married. That's how much they loved them. Check out why pyaar deewana hota hai...

Mujra and tawaifs were never so classy until Sahebjaan came along. She was mesmerizing, elegant and drop-dead-gorgeous and when she danced, jaws just dropped in awe... one of the best albums of that decade.

A very sexy and young Dimple gets introduced and people can't take their eyes off her. She's so hot Kaka falls for her in real life. I adore how great she looks in this one. I think it's a koli dance outfit that reminds me of Madhuri in "hum ko aaj kal hai" of Sailaab.

Bakwaas actor bakwaas acting ruin a great ATF song with beautiful meaningful lyrics. This is the example. Simi G's talent wasted... it's only for Kishore Kumar's sweet voice that people remember the song even today. The actor reminds me of Dev Anand. LOL!

Such a famous song you still hear people singing this at weddings all over the world.

I had completely forgotten that Aaj mere yaar ki shaadi hai was an actual song in a film! It played so often in every wedding, and so tunelessly when the live band played, that its become a terrible-music-only song in mind. Thanks for reminding me that the original was nothing like that!
And I love the idea of your post - so fascinating how Bollywood legacy carries on. Of course, the 70s have movies named after songs of previous decades, too! E.g. - Tere mere sapne ab ek rang hain (Guide) became Tere Mere Sapne (1971), and Main kaa karo ram mujhe buddha mil gaya (Sangam) became Buddha Mil Gaya (1971).

Bollyviewer, so true about "aaj mere yaar ki shaadi hai". I noticed that first when I saw Roop Tera Mastana a film and a song both of this decade and that's what gave me the idea. :) It's completely fascinating!
