Remembering Anand aka Rajesh Khanna...

Looks like that time has arrived to post the dialogs I typed up a decade back. There could not be an appropriate time than it is now. So sad and brutal reality. I had typed these up during the time when I went crazy for the Anand and Safar dialogs and would listen to my only-dialogs audio cassette that had selected dialogs from both of these films on each side of the tape. I'd listen to them on a repeat mode until they were all memorized.

As Isabhai Suratwala in Anand conversed with his father and later as Anand, Rajesh Khanna (Kaka) recited them to Babumoshai (Amitabh Bachchan):

"tere jaise bete ko paida karke main bahot sharminda hoon"

"apni galti pe sharminda hona har aadmi ka farz hai"

"teri yeh majaal? hum tumhe zinda gaad denge"

"lagi shart? agar gaad denge to zinda nahi rakh sakenge"

"tu paida hote hi kyon na mar gaya?"

"zindagi aur maut upar wale ke haath hai jahaan-panaah
usse na aap badal sakte hai aur na main
hum asb to rang manch ki kath-putliyaan hai
jinki dor upar wale ki ungaliyon mein bandhi hai
kab kaun kaise uthega koyi nahin bataa sakta
hahahaa"

(wicked laughter echoes)

"maut tu ek kavita hai
mujhse ek kavita ka wada hai, milegi mujhko
doobti navzon mein jab dard ko neend aane lage

You're being missed, Rajesh Khanna sahab. Absolutely loved you in so many of your films and have watched you and would continue to watch your works tirelessly in future. May peace be with you.

Om shanti.

Sorry? Eacjactly!

Sometimes some movies we watch have a long lasting effect on us. Like some scenes or dialog just stay with us, become part of our lives. Salaam Namaste was one of them that did it to V so all of the 4th of July weekend, we were doing this dialog-baazi with each other every time we got a chance.

Would you like to watch the clip of that dialog? You're to say:

Sawrrie?

Eagjactly!

Javed Jaffery aka Crocodile Dundee

Another funny one-liner from the same movie is "ghosts of kicks don't listen to talks" meaning "laaton ke bhoot baaton se nahin maante". We tried searching for more clips on youtube to listen to Crocodile Dundee's crazy translated English but couldn't find them. I can't wait to watch the movie again now.

The Voice!

No one, not a single person, can come even close to Amitabh Bachchan when it comes to dialog delivery. I have gone totally crazy for his voice, not just once, or twice but again and again and this man just doesn't seem to be wanting to stop charming his audience. When I heard "dekha ek khwaab to yeh silsile hue", I fell in love with the song instantly, but it was the sheyr that Amitabh says before the song that made it even more appealing and now I don't like the song if this dialog is missing. The presense of the dialog gives yet another depth to the song and without the dialog, this song still remains incomplete for me.

वेहम्-ओ-गुमान से दूर दूर
यकीन कि हद के पास पास
दिल को भरम यह हो गया
उनको हम से प्यार है

(music and song follow...)

vehm-o-gumaan se door door
yakeen ki hadh ke paas paas
dil ko bharam yeh ho gaya
unko hum se pyaar hai

Yet again the dialog that just stays in your heart. Some words that etch the internal walls of your heart and never get erased. This happened when he delivered the dialog as Badshah Khan of Khuda Gawah. Wow! what a voice! what a voice! I am rendered speechless listening to the voice. Only thing you'd be able to feel is that each and every single hair on your body stands up when he speaks these words:

sir zameen-e-hindustaan! assalaam aaleikum! meraa naam baadshah khan hai. ishq mera mazhab, mohabbat mera imaan. mohabbat jis ke liye shiri aur hera ke naam phool ki khushbu ban gaye. jis ke liye farhaad ne pahaadon ka seena cheer kar dudh ki neher bahaa di. jis ke liye majnu ne sehraao ki khaak chhaani aur aaj bhi zinda hai taarikh ban kar. ussi mohabbat ke liye kaabul ka yeh pathaan, hindustaan ki sir-zameen se mohabbat ki khair maangne aaya hai.
aazmaish kadi hai, imtehaan mushkil hai, lekin hauslaa buland hai. jeet hamesha mohabbat ki hui hai, sadiyon se yehi hota aaya hai, yehi hoga. roshni gar khuda ko ho manzoor, aandhiyon mein chiraag jalte hai. khuda gawaah hai.

WHOA! It's magical...
