A haiku

After so long, I felt like writing and all that came out was a haiku. After looking at this photo. I'm glad the writers block has gotten a hole in it.

A green burst
Brightness amidst
Make my day

Those people

What makes them so?
They don’t just come and go
There are there forever
Mean to the core is who.

In life, they often got burned
Why? Because they truly earned
But now they think it’s unfair
Too bad for us, they never learned.

They go around treating all bad
As if it were a birth-right, they had
You are wise and are able to see through
If only they knew, you don’t get mad.

It would make them angry, red-hot!
If they only found out it bugs you, not
They can’t see beyond their own grief
Hey! One-sided battles are never fought.

I say go ahead and continue to be cruel
Your attitude is what has become your fuel
It will never make you rise above
Because you don’t deserve so, you rare jewel!

In your world, ignorance is bliss
It sucks, because you can’t read this
People would tell you, if you were worthy
What you are doing is pure self-injustice.

Diwali Wishes for All

Here is a wish for God to bless:
Abundance of love, joy, and happiness,
Peace for the whole world, it is a mess!
Playing for kids with toys that cost less,
Youthful thinking, living life with finesse.

Diwali is here and I must confess
Indian Diwali are world's best!!!
What fun is it to work today with recess?
All I want to do is wear an expensive dress,
Look pretty, and eat good food in excess... ;)
I wish you all that and even more this Diwali, oh yes!

:D

Happy Diwali & Happy New Year!

Best wishes,
Kanan

untitled

For it sweeps you off like pile of hay
Altering the course of your life
Tomorrow will be yet another day
Ever not imagined than you've today

untitled

He has gone now and that is the reality
But still it seems like he has not
My mind refuses to accept the fact
Why does it affect me so? I sit and think
As the tears roll down my cheeks
My throat chokes, full of emotions
If this is how it is for me, then
What must it be like for them?
I can't imagine...

He says life is transient and
This is how it goes
You can refuse to accept the facts
But can not run away from reality
If you feel like letting it out
Do so and then move on
The only thing constant is change
So I try to move on
With the day
With this life
Without him being there
For all of us.

He once wrote in his diary: zindagi ek safar hai suhaana yahaan kal kya ho kisne jaana...

Learning to Give Up! or Let Go?

Perhaps, this is how it is to transpire
All the time... waiting with despair
The feelings in heart are just dire
In the mind you know, to pause and conspire
Entire universe seems to go haywire
Nothing around you appears debonair
Crumbling down come the pieces of that desire
Eruptions within, and explosions like in a wildfire

Parsi kavita: આઈ મને સુ કરેચ

After reading Ek Surati Ghazal on Nishit's blog, I was reminded of this one as they both fall under same category of funny Surati/Parsi poetry. So it was a Gujarati music program/musical evening years ago in Fremont, CA by Soli Kapadia and Nisha Upadhyay where I first heard this one. Solibhai adds jokes in between his songs and this came up when he was talking about funny songs/ghazals. I laughed for more than a week remembering the song and loved it so much that the lyrics just got stuck in my head. Not sure whether it was whole song or partial that he sang but it was funniest one I ever heard. It is a Surati/Parsi song in written in Gujarati.

And, my first try at writing a Gujarati blog post is successful!!

Birthday Wishes

Her presence is God's blessing to me
And she fills my life with happiness
Perhaps because she is the only one I have
Pretty and precious little sister
You'd wish you had one like her too!

Because it is a very special day today
I feel like jumping with joy and celebrate
Reasons, I don't need them
To appreciate what I have when I have her
Happiness, health, love, and joy I wish
Dearest sister of mine would always have
And may God bless you with all wishes and more.
You and I are best friends forever!

May all your dreams come true and in
Everything you do, success comes to you.
Eventually, may you find that ultimate goal - the
Righteous one that you seek with all your heart.
All my love to you, sweetheart, today and forever.

Losing my Memory Capturer

So many memories are attached with it
It was always with me wherever I went
For the past one year and eight months
It did what I wanted it to do,
That is to brightly capture my memories
Just the way I wanted
And now it lies beside me on this desk
Lifeless
With salty sea water droplets in it's core
Both of us are uncertain about it's future
As I make frantic calls around to find
If someone... anyone who can mend it
From this helpless state
To make it click and flash again, only for me
As I grieve, unable to let go
Of my precious Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W7.

Broken Strings of Friendship

The agony of losing a friend
Eats you up from the inside
For not knowing what you did wrong
They do not care to respond back
Even after you have tried so many times
You have given up, but thinking hasn't
Where was it that you went wrong?
Not being able to find the answer
Ever
For the memory of that last conversation
Haunts you forever...
Heart broken and gloomy is how you feel.

First Day of Summer

The schools would have started back then
All the new students heading to their new classrooms
Students wearing new ironed crisp uniforms and brand new shoes & socks
Students with new bookbags and newly covered books and blank notebooks with personalized name labels
Brand new pencils and compass boxes, yup that's what we used to call them
Smiles on faces and excitement to meet new classmates, new teachers
Only cheers and chirps would be heard from them
Specially after spending a relaxing summer with families and eating ripe mangoes in burning hot weather...

That's how they used to be. Not any more.

There are none of those reminders
So Yahoo guys have to put up a sign on the main page
Announcing it is the first day of summer
A pitiful life, so technical life has become
We have everything except for time
Time for ourselves
Time to take a minute from what we are doing and smell the roses
To look outside the window to see what season it is
To experience those two moments with mother nature
To enjoy those simple pleasures of life that don't ask for money but just a moment from us to give us the world

This is how we welcome summer... today!

In the Matrix of Arrays and RectangleF

My brain is being beaten like a drum with sticks
Oh it's driving me crazy! this concept of Matrix
How do I draw graphs and points using graphics?
Entire client area seems confused with my clicks
Google hasn't been of help in finding any quick fix
Those developers seem like they are in politics
It seems I am unable to create an array of points six
Where oh where is a wall so I can band my head on bricks?

The old and the dear

Happiness and sadness
I feel both at the same time
Time flows so fast yet so slow
It feels like I'm losing all of them
The ones far away and near by in heart
Wish I can be with them all
To tell them how much they mean
While they are here
Life is passing away
Like sand held in hands
Will I ever be able to hold it
Like I did before once again?

Broken Heart

In his eyes I feel that sorrow
in his voice I feel that pain
of losing a friend whom he wished
to know dearly but as a dream
it is just passing by
as cruel reality dawns upon him
tomorrow will be the day
the dream will be shattered
in a million pieces.

The Control Freak Mind

Mind is all upset with anger squirming inside
It is all falling apart and you just can't hide
All your troubles are taking over like a high-tide
Then you realize your sanity has committed suicide
And there's no way to get out of this subside
You wish you had someone, who you can go and confide
Can't it be any simpler?
Can't it be any less complicated?
And why? These questions and my brains collide

Aimless

It is a regular working day

As I sit on this chair idly
Molecules in my brain have become inactive

For this moment will become part of memory
Eventually to fade away like light of setting Sun
Escaping this emptyness seems impossible
Longing to have a goal, any goal
Infinite number of ideas springing in mind, but
Numbness of those cells doesn't let them sink in
Gaping, these moments pass one after the other

Lost amid the ocean of meaningless thoughts
Observing my brain waves
Sitting here absentmindedly
To find that goal someday

Don't you feel like screaming?

When they make you bang your head on wall
And everything seems to lose control...

When they piss you off bigtime
And everyone just loves to whine...

When they annoy the heck out of you
And everyone just demands from you...

When they make you want to pull your hair out
And everything just seems to fall apart...

When they make you go nuts
And everything just seems like a rut...

It is now all just very crazy
And everything around is just too hazy.

*deep breath*

Abu Ben Adam

Abu Ben Adam, may his tribe increase

Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace

And saw, within the moonlight of his room

Making it rich, like a lily in bloom

An angel writing in a book of gold.

Exceeding peace had made Abu Ben Adam bold

And to the presence in his room he said

' What writest thou?'

The vision raised its head

And with a look of all sweet accord Answered:

'The names of those who love the Lord.

'And is mine one?' said Abu.

'Nay not so' Replied the Angel

Abu spoke more low

But cheerily still and said

'I pray thee then Write me as one that loves his fellow-men'

The angel wrote and vanished.

The next night it came again with awaking light

And showed the names of whom love of God had blessed.

And lo! Ben Adam's name led all the rest.
